Distinguished Service Award, Jackie McKinney

Jackie McKinney is the 2023 Holmes Community College Distinguished Service Award Recipient. Holmes Alumni Association presents this deserving award to a committed individual who shows dedicated service to the college.

McKinney is a native of Vaiden and a graduate of Vaiden High School Class of 1977. Other academic accomplishments for McKinney include being on the dean’s list at the University of Memphis. She served in the military for 10 years after high school and served as a former educator for several years, as well.

McKinney helps provide opportunities for youth in Carroll County to be successful. She is now a social activist for youth in rural areas and an ordained minister.

“Holmes is only 30 miles from Vaiden and has been a good fit for helping youth from rural areas,” McKinney said.

In order to help provide opportunities for youth in Carroll County, McKinney established the Redeemer’s Scholarship to aid African American residents of Vaiden who have a financial need. The scholarship is given to two students (one male and one female) who are pursuing associates degree (AA).

McKinney still resides in Vaiden. She has one son and three grandchildren.
