COVID-19 UPDATES

As the fight rages on with COVID-19 pandemic, the administration of Holmes Community College is doing its part to help flatten the curve from the spread of this dreadful virus.  

The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) continue to closely monitor the outbreak of respiratory illnesses caused by the novel (new) coronavirus COVID-19, and are working to limit the spread of cases nationally and in Mississippi. INFORMATION FOR CURRENT STUDENTS

Holmes Community College’s Fall 2020 full-term day and evening on-campus classes will begin on Aug. 17 as scheduled. The College has made modifications to the schedule so that students can be finished with their classes by Wednesday, Nov. 25 due to the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19.

Holmes will not recognize a Fall break as in the past so that the College can utilize those days in the classroom. Also, some classes may require some Friday instruction since students attend classes four days a week (M-Th). Class sizes for the Fall will be based on room capacity.

Online (eLearning) classes will likely follow the state-published schedule. Proctored exams scheduled after this date will have a secure, virtual option paid for by the College. Health science and other select classes may meet after Nov. 25 as needed.

Dormitories on the Goodman Campus and food services at each location will be open for the fall.

Fall athletics (football, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s soccer) will have abbreviated schedules. Once those are finalized, you can find them at holmesathletics.com. Performance-based scholarship activities (such as show choir) will schedule limited performances as well.

To avoid large gatherings, Holmes will not have a Fall Convocation for faculty/staff members this year, and Homecoming activities for 2020 have been cancelled at this time.

Campus vice presidents will consult with the health advisory teams and counsel employees on COVID-related questions they may have throughout the semester.

Holmes is also planning a winter session for select eLearning classes so that students can pick up needed classes over a three-week period. More information and a list of those classes will be available in the near future and can be found at holmescc.edu.

Non-emergency Signs or Symptoms

When unwell, especially if you have any of the signs or symptoms of COVID-19, do not come to campus. Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your healthcare provider.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Health Science Programs

CTE courses, including Health Sciences, will be completed through a combination of face-to-face and online lecture as well as small group lab/clinical when approved. Specific information is available through Canvas and Holmes email.

DualCredit

Our Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit Coordinator is in close contact with school administrators, counselors and instructors as we progress through the fall. For any questions or assistance with dual credit, please contact the Coordinator of Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit.

eLearning

The eLearning Department at Holmes is committed to maintaining course progress for online students.

It is crucial for students who move from on-campus to online courses to maintain regular contact with instructors and complete assignments on time.

Fall 2020 online courses will require two proctored exams.

These exams can be taken at any of the college’s available proctoring locations or through virtual proctoring. Both proctoring solutions are by appointment only.

More information on this process can be found in the eLearning Online Orientation, which is completed by the student.

The eLearning Department wants every student to be successful and works hard to equip them with the tools and training needed.

Students must do their part as well to make sure assignments are completed on time and course work continues as scheduled.

Workforce Programs

Face-to-face workforce training classes held on campus will resume in July utilizing the same covid safety protocols for all face-to-face classes.

Companies utilizing Holmes as their provider and students in face-to-face training programs will be contacted by their workforce coordinators when activities can resume.

Adult Basic Education

Face-to-face high school equivalency classes are being held utilizing the safety protocols for all other face-to-face classes. Contact your local instructor or review the Holmes Community College website to locate classes and instructors.

Library Services

Holmes Community College Libraries are taking important steps to contain the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Physical library locations on all campuses are now open to students only. Physical Distancing in Residence Halls

  • Physical distancing should be practiced in all common spaces in the residence halls including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, laundry rooms, etc.
  • Physical distancing should be practiced in community bathrooms.
  • Recognize and comply with all signage posted throughout the campus regarding social distancing.

Visitation

  • All visitation in residence halls has been suspended for the fall 2020 semester.
  • In order to maximize physical distancing, visitors of the same gender in individual rooms are also prohibited.
  • Students may only go into the building of their assigned room.
  • No visitors will be allowed in residence halls (commuters, family, friends, or residents assigned to other dormitories). Individuals who do not live in a particular residence hall will not be granted entry to the building. In order to maximize social distancing, visitation in private rooms is also prohibited.
  • Lobbies will not be available for any students who do not have an assigned room in a residence hall. Physical distancing must be practiced in lobbies.

Face Masks and Coverings

  • Face coverings are required and should be worn in all areas of residence halls except for your assigned room.
  • Face coverings should be worn in community bathrooms as possible.
  • All dormitory residents will be given a “Welcome Kit” when they report for move in. The zippered pouch will include two face masks and four hand sanitizer packs.

Students who knowingly are diagnosed with COVID-19 are required to isolate and quarantine off campus as deemed necessary.

Sanitization

  • Dormitory rooms and bathroom areas are expected to be clean at all times. We encourage all students to sanitize often.
  • Wash and sanitize your hands frequently. We strongly encourage all residents to keep hand sanitizer on hand in rooms as well as disinfectant spray such as Lysol.

Dormitory and Room Changes

  • Dormitory or room changes will not be allowed when the semester begins unless the Director of Student Housing, at his discretion, deems a change absolutely necessary. This policy is designed to adhere to COVID-19 protocol.

What to Bring When You Return to Campus

The health, well-being, and safety of the HCC family depends on each of us doing our part. As you prepare for the semester, please make sure you have each of these items.

  • Thermometer
  • Hand sanitizer (Four packs of hand sanitizer are provided in your Welcome Kit)
  • Face coverings (at least 3) Two are provided in your Welcome Kit
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Fever is a common symptom of COVID-19; thermometers will be an important self-screening tool for everyone. Every student is strongly encouraged to have his/her own thermometer.
    • Normal body temperatures often range under 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Digital thermometers typically provide the most accurate readings.
    • Old school and non-contact thermometers work well, too.
    • Do not take your temperature within 30 minutes of physical activity or after taking fever-reducing medications.

All dormitories on the campus of Holmes Community College in Goodman will officially open for students to begin staying overnight at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
Residents will be allowed to move in their belongings only, the week before classes begin, which will be August 10 through August 14, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. only each day. Students must report to the Student Housing Office in the Lorance Student Center to pick up dorm IDs and room keys.
As a reminder, no students will be allowed to stay overnight until August 16, beginning at 2 p.m., when all dorms officially open.
Also, no students will be allowed to move in their belongings if not registered for at least 15 or more hours on the Goodman campus.

NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO MOVE IN BELONGINGS ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, BUT MAY DO SO ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, BEGINNING AT 2 P.M., IF HE/SHE WAS UNABLE TO DO SO DURING THE WEEK.

Covid-19 Requirements and Instructions for Dormitory Move-In
1. All students must check in at the Student Housing Office when arriving on campus. Room keys and IDs will be given to students before being allowed to move in belongings to dormitory rooms.
2. When entering the Lorance Student Center to visit the Student Housing Office for check-in, everyone must wear a mask, adhere to the six feet apart rule for social distancing, and enter the office one at a time.
3. No more than two adults (18 or older) may assist each student during move-in. No children are allowed in the dormitory or Student Housing Office. Each adult must wear a mask upon entering the dormitory.
4. No extra furniture is allowed to be moved into rooms including recliners, sofas, futons, tables, chairs, etc. Any items not mentioned here or in the Student Housing Rules or Regulations must be approved by the Director of Student Housing.
5. Students are allowed to move in belongings only and will not be allowed to stay overnight until August 16, 2020, when all dormitories officially open at 2 p.m.
6. All students and those assisting with move-in are required to wear masks when entering the residence halls and must keep them on for the duration of time inside of them.
7. Students who have not met the 15 hour registration requirement will not be allowed to move in and will not be given a key or ID.

Altered Work Schedule

Holmes has returned to its normal work schedule except for Fridays when staff is allowed to work from home. Staff will work from home on Fridays for the remainder of the summer. If coming to campus, please adhere to the social distancing guidelines and masks are required inside buildings. 

Travel

No travel is permitted at this time for any reason.

IT Questions

We understand that questions or problems may arise while you are away from your office computer. If you are in need of support, please do a service request in the MyHolmes portal and an IT Specialist will help you as soon as possible.

Human Resources

While moving to an altered work schedule, questions may arise regarding pay dates and pay by administrative leave in these unchartered times. As of now, no pay schedules have been altered and should process as usual.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19.

These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.
PAID LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS
Generally, employers covered under the Act must provide employees:
Up to two weeks (80 hours, or a part-time employee’s two-week equivalent) of paid sick leave based on the higher of their regular rate of pay, or the applicable state or Federal minimum wage, paid at:

  • 100% for qualifying reasons #1-3 below, up to $511 daily and $5,110 total;
  • 2/3 for qualifying reasons #4 and 6 below, up to $200 daily and $2,000 total; and
  • Up to 12 weeks of paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave paid at 2/3 for qualifying reason #5 below for up to $200 daily and $12,000 total.

A part-time employee is eligible for leave for the number of hours that the employee is normally scheduled to work over that period.

ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES
In general, employees of private sector employers with fewer than 500 employees, and certain public sector employers, are eligible for up to two weeks of fully or partially paid sick leave for COVID-19 related reasons (see below). Employees who have been employed for at least 30 days prior to their leave request may be eligible for up to an additional 10 weeks of partially paid expanded family and medical leave for reason #5 below.

QUALIFYING REASONS FOR LEAVE RELATED TO COVID-19
An employee is entitled to take leave related to COVID-19 if the employee is unable to work, including unable to telework, because the employee:
1. is subject to a Federal, State, or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID-19;
2. has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine related to COVID-19;
3. is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and is seeking a medical diagnosis;
4. is caring for an individual subject to an order described in (1) or self-quarantine as described in (2);
5. is caring for his or her child whose school or place of care is closed (or child care provider is unavailable) due to COVID-19 related reasons; or
6. is experiencing any other substantially-similar condition specified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

COLLEGE UPDATES

Update 8/12/2021 – Message from Dr. Haffey

Due to rising coronavirus cases, students and employees at Holmes Community College will need to wear a mask the first week of school when in classrooms, dining areas and common areas. Masks are encouraged but not required in offices and dorms. We look forward to a fall semester in-person with a host of activities. We will evaluate our mask policy every week and will remove the requirement as soon as case counts return to lower levels state-wide.

Dormitory Move-in Dates and Times for fall 2020
(Assigned Residents Only)

All dormitories on the campus of Holmes Community College in Goodman will officially open for students to begin staying overnight at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
Residents will be allowed to move in their belongings only, the week before classes begin, which will be August 10 through August 14, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. only each day. Students must report to the Student Housing Office in the Lorance Student Center to pick up dorm IDs and room keys.
As a reminder, no students will be allowed to stay overnight until August 16, beginning at 2 p.m., when all dorms officially open.
Also, no students will be allowed to move in their belongings if not registered for at least 15 or more hours on the Goodman campus.

NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO MOVE IN BELONGINGS ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, BUT MAY DO SO ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, BEGINNING AT 2 P.M., IF HE/SHE WAS UNABLE TO DO SO DURING THE WEEK.

Covid-19 Requirements and Instructions for Dormitory Move-In
1. All students must check in at the Student Housing Office when arriving on campus. Room keys and IDs will be given to students before being allowed to move in belongings to dormitory rooms.
2. When entering the Lorance Student Center to visit the Student Housing Office for check-in, everyone must wear a mask, adhere to the six feet apart rule for social distancing, and enter the office one at a time.
3. No more than two adults (18 or older) may assist each student during move-in. No children are allowed in the dormitory or Student Housing Office. Each adult must wear a mask upon entering the dormitory.
4. No extra furniture is allowed to be moved into rooms including recliners, sofas, futons, tables, chairs, etc. Any items not mentioned here or in the Student Housing Rules or Regulations must be approved by the Director of Student Housing.
5. Students are allowed to move in belongings only and will not be allowed to stay overnight until August 16, 2020, when all dormitories officially open at 2 p.m.
6. All students and those assisting with move-in are required to wear masks when entering the residence halls and must keep them on for the duration of time inside of them.
7. Students who have not met the 15 hour registration requirement will not be allowed to move in and will not be given a key or ID.

Fall Class Information
Holmes Community College’s Fall 2020 full-term day and evening on-campus classes will begin on Aug. 17 as scheduled. The College has made modifications to the schedule so that students can be finished with their classes by Wednesday, Nov. 25 due to the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19.

Holmes will not recognize a Fall break as in the past so that the College can utilize those days in the classroom. Also, some classes may require some Friday instruction since students attend classes four days a week (M-Th). Class sizes for the Fall will be based on room capacity.

Online (eLearning) classes will likely follow the state-published schedule. Proctored exams scheduled after this date will have a secure, virtual option paid for by the College. Health science and other select classes may meet after Nov. 25 as needed.

Dormitories on the Goodman Campus and food services at each location will be open for the fall.

Fall athletics (football, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s soccer) will have abbreviated schedules. Once those are finalized, you can find them at holmesathletics.com. Performance-based scholarship activities (such as show choir) will schedule limited performances as well.

To avoid large gatherings, Holmes will not have a Fall Convocation for faculty/staff members this year, and Homecoming activities for 2020 have been cancelled at this time.

Campus vice presidents will consult with the health advisory teams and counsel employees on COVID-related questions they may have throughout the semester.

Holmes is also planning a winter session for select eLearning classes so that students can pick up needed classes over a three-week period. More information and a list of those classes will be available in the near future and can be found at holmescc.edu.

Holmes to retain safety protocols through the end of the spring semester
Holmes Community College will retain COVID-19 safety protocols through the remainder of the spring semester.  This includes wearing an appropriate face covering or mask (must cover the mouth and nose) while inside a building or classroom unless otherwise specified.

We will continue to evaluate COVID-19 safety procedures and update them as necessary to remain in compliance with all CDC, state and local health guidelines.

Summer classes to offer face-to-face and online options
Holmes Community College will offer both traditional face-to-face and online classes during the summer sessions but not all locations have the same availability.

The Ridgeland Campus will be the only campus offering face-to-face classes during the first term of summer. Students, faculty and staff will need to adhere to the following guidelines: wear a facemask or cloth face covering; stay at least six feet away from another person; wash hands with soap and water; use hand sanitizer with 60 percent alcohol; stay home if you are sick; and appropriately cover coughs and sneezes. Students wishing to take first term classes at other Holmes locations will take them through our online availability.

Plans are to have both traditional and online classes during the second term of summer school and in the fall. Depending on the COVID-19 situation when July classes begin, students, faculty and staff may still need to follow social distancing guidelines.

Video Highlights:

  • Full time employees that regularly work a summer schedule should choose to work a full day on either Wednesday, May 20th or Thursday, May 21st to prepare work spaces. Previously scheduled registrations will occur on May 26, 27, and 28. Employees already scheduled to work these campus-specific events should report to work on these days. Check with your supervisor.
  • All employees on contracts (11 and 12 month) that are scheduled to work this summer should begin working their regular work hours starting June 1st. These employees will work Monday thru Thursday, and a full day virtually every Friday during the summer. Employees who do not feel comfortable working around other employees may work on campus 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They would work virtually all day on Monday.
  • Employees may either work regular work hours Monday thru Thursday( and virtually on Friday) or 9-hour days in person on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (and virtually on Monday) if approved by your supervisor. No other schedules are acceptable unless approved by your supervisor. Supervisors should forward these approvals to me or Human Resources.
  • Hourly employees will begin working regular work hours starting June 1. Face to face summer classes that populate will meet Monday through Friday.

Video Highlights:

  • College employees will continue to work a semi-flexible schedule as much as possible from home thru May 15th. Full campus access is granted to all employees May 3rd as needed.
  • Holmes logo masks are expected to arrive next week. They will be distributed to employees, and we encourage their use in common areas. Other PPE has been ordered.
  • Face to face classes are scheduled to begin for the first summer term in Ridgeland only. Academic instructors may opt out of teaching F2F for personal safety concerns.
  • Health care advisors have been set for each campus to coordinate opening safely.
  • Although the College expects legislative cuts to our budget once they resume May 18th, the College is prepared to move forward with full contracts and department budgets, tapping into reserves.

The CARES Act 

Congress recently passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act which will deliver emergency financial assistance to Holmes Community College students in the form of funds to be further distributed to students and used to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).

The US Department of Education has stated that recipients must be Title IV eligible which include the following:

  • must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
  • must not be in default on a student loan
  • males between the ages of 18-26 must have registered with Selective Service
  • must have a valid social security number
  • must be a citizen of the US or an eligible non-citizen
  • other criteria may be forthcoming as guidelines are being released constantly

If you were enrolled exclusively in online courses as of March 13, you will not be eligible for any of these funds.

Our best method of gathering data on all of our students and determining which of those students meet the criteria above is by requiring the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2019-20. We strongly suggest that you go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and file your FAFSA for 2019-20 using your 2017 tax information prior to May 15, 2020. If you do not complete the FAFSA by the deadline stated, you will not be eligible for consideration of these funds.

College received $1.9 million in CARES funds
Holmes Community College received $1.9 million from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The funds came through the U.S. Department of Education to assist qualifying students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The “student stimulus” money comes via the $14 billion Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund portion of the $2 trillion CARES Act. Holmes students are part of the nationwide pool of postsecondary education students and institutions that are all supported by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

As of June 11, the College had distributed $1,871,700. The College had 2,186 students eligible for the funds.

Any student receiving funds from the CARES grant accessed the funds through the BankMobile card in the same manner that all refunds are processed at Holmes.
The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020, and is the third and largest major legislative initiative to address COVID-19. Holmes signed and returned the agreement in April 2020 requesting the funds.

The College has decided to finish the Spring Semester in an online format. Students should continue to check their Canvas and Holmes email accounts for assignments and exam information. Students are encouraged to reach out to their instructors during this time to make sure they’ve completed all objectives expected of them for the spring term.

Dorm students will be receiving information from the Housing office on when the College feels it is safe to return to the Goodman Campus to retrieve your belongings and to complete the move-out procedure.

WHEF Student Relief Fund
The WHEF Student Relief Fund Grant is intended to have a direct impact on Holmes Community College students in extenuating circumstances to help you achieve academic success.

To qualify students must be enrolled in for credit course/s and have documentation of a temporary financial need resulting from an unexpected emergency.

Example of grant awards include but are not limited to stipends for: Internet access, Proctored or final exam fees, Credential fees, tablet/computer loan programs).

Students will be able to begin registering for Summer and Fall 2020 classes on April 14. As part of the process, students will have to meet with their advisor to get their alternate pin. Holmes to continue online-only classes until April 20

Holmes Community College President Dr. Jim Haffey announced today that the college will continue remote instruction until at least April 20 as the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to be monitored.

“We are very anxious to resume a normal work schedule as soon as possible and will do so with a lot of energy as soon as it is safe to do so,” Dr. Haffey said. “Most college functions that were scheduled to occur before May 1 have been cancelled, but events (such as graduation) scheduled to occur after that time will continue to be evaluated.

“Our goal during this time continues to be to serve our customers and to do what is necessary to move our state forward,” Dr. Haffey said. “We have strong contingency plans and emergency funds in place for situations like this, and we want to make sure we continue moving forward.”

The college moved 788 academic and career technical classes to an online format on March 18, making Holmes one of the first schools in the state to resume classes after Spring Break. Instructors, staff and administration will continue to provide instructional support to the 5,210 students as everyone navigates the uncertainties and inconveniences resulting from this global pandemic.

As one way to assist students, Holmes has identified several areas at each location where they can park and work on their assignments in their vehicle if they have limited access to wifi at their homes. This service is available from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Additionally, Mississippi library systems are offering free wifi from the parking lots; visit https://cutt.ly/xtv1duh for a full list. Spring semester continues in online format

Spring semester classes at Holmes Community College started back today in an online format as Holmes does its part to help fight the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). 

The College has moved 788 academic and career technical classes to an online format which includes 3,555 traditional students. Currently, 5,210 Holmes students are being taught and are receiving instructional support. Plans are being made to host individual training for career and technical students in addition to their online content.

Holmes Community College President Dr. Jim Haffey is proud of the effort his instructors and administrators have made to keep students on track to finishing the spring semester in a timely manner.

“We take a lot of pride at Holmes at being flexible and responding to our communities’ needs quickly,” Haffey said. “That is a culture that our instructors and employees embrace.”

Holmes has invested in the Canvas Learning Management Platform, which has become the most widely adopted LMS in North America, benefitting millions of students and teachers globally across 70 countries. The eLearning Department at Holmes embraced the use of Canvas and many other innovative activities to enhance online education.

“We were fortunate to have invested heavily in online learning over the last decade,” Haffey said. “A large percentage of our classes are usually delivered online to students across the state and country. I would not say that it has been an easy process to convert everything to online, but most of our classes already had a lot of online resources tied to them, so we have been able to expand those. I am extremely proud of our instructors for jumping in with both feet to help get our state and country back going.”

Director of eLearning Tish Stewart said her staff was eager to help the on campus instructors convert their classes to online.

“Since our eLearning program has 20 years of experience, we have a wealth of information that we are able to share with instructors and students, including basic instructions, training manuals, and tips for the online classroom,” Stewart said. “We are doing all we can to help all those involved with this transition to be prepped and ready for what the weeks ahead may entail.”

Vice President for Academic Programs Dr. Jenny Jones said once she knew a transition from on-campus to online was imminent, her staff and instructors went to work getting this accomplished.

“Our instructors were able to take their face-to-face courses and start converting them to fully online within days,” Jones said. “Of course none of this would have been possible without the outstanding support from the eLearning Department. They have been the backbone to this massive undertaking. We want to ensure that our Holmes students to know that we are all here for them and will support them in the days ahead. No Place Like Holmes! has never been more evident than now.”

Vice President of Career Technical Education Dr. Amy Whittington said her classes have made a move to online as well which has made her instructors embrace new technologies along the way.

“I am proud to say that our face-to-face CTE courses went live today with online content to ensure that we are continuing to provide those skills necessary to gain employment upon completion of a CTE program,” Whittington said. “The eLearning Department has been vital in the success of our push to online with program content. Our highly-skilled instructors are continually searching for new technologies to train remotely.

“Collaboration and team work across divisions have been key in this transition,” she added. “While these may be challenging times, I am confident that our CTE team will use this time to find ways to make our programs even stronger.”

“As schools and universities close or otherwise prepare for coronavirus (COVID-19), the Instructure (Canvas) team is here for you,” according to the Canvas website. “We’re committed to the health, safety, and success of students, educators and administrators everywhere. And we want to make sure you can continue to teach, learn, and succeed from anywhere.”

Holmes has also identified several areas at each location where students can park and work on their assignments in their vehicle if they have limited access at their homes.
Wifi is available to students in the following areas of our campuses: Goodman Campus, along Montague Street; Ridgeland Campus, parking lot in front of Adcock Library; Grenada Campus, parking lot on Avent Drive near the Phillips Building;  Attala Center, in the big parking lot; and Yazoo Center, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Hours available will be 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Students need to be aware that signal strength is determined by the numbers of users so the strength may fluctuate as more people take advantage of the service.

If you need any help completing financial aid applications (MS Aid Application or the FAFSA) please reach out to them by going to www.get2college.org.  They can provide virtual assistance.  Remember that March 31 is the deadline for completing the MS Aid Application for the HELP grant.  Please complete this application as soon as possible and before March 31.

Message from Dr. Haffey

A video message from Holmes Community College President, Jim Haffey.

The College will continue to host Face to Face classes in an online format through March 30 and may follow CDC guidelines to remain online only for 8 weeks (or the remainder of the Spring Semester). The College is exploring options to bring small groups in to complete some career technical assignments but will not do so until after March 30. Proctored exams will likely be available in small group formats after March 30 or students may choose to use a digital, third-party service.

Message from Dr. Jim Haffey

Holmes CC will cancel classes on Monday March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 for students taking classes on campus.

Students currently enrolled in online courses will continue as normal. Students are strongly encouraged to check their student email daily for updates.

Dual credit classes will continue as normal following the local high school schedule.

At this time, classes will resume on March 18 in an online or alternative format until at least Monday, March 23rd. Every effort will be made to accommodate students during this period. Dorms will only be open March 16-18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to accommodate students needing to access their rooms for educational supplies.

Common areas such as libraries, food service, computer labs, and athletic facilities will be closed.

The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges has announced that all athletic practices and games have been suspended through March 30.

All campus activities and events outside of the classroom at Holmes CC have been canceled until further notice.

Holmes CC will restrict all student and employee travel unless deemed necessary by the Office of the President.

Faculty, staff and students who believe they may have come in contact with the coronavirus in another venue are asked to self-quarantine for at least fourteen days prior to returning to work or school. If a student or faculty or staff member exhibits any symptoms, we ask that they not return to the college until they have been medically cleared.

  • Avoid close contact with sick people
  • While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands; germs spread this way.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub with at least 60% alcohol.
