Financial Literacy in Paying for College
- Visit moneygeek.com. The site can give you tips on how to “plan, apply, and pay for college”. For those thinking about their children’s education, the site also has information on 529 college savings plans.
- Begin thinking about budgeting for college. It’s never too early to start.
- See our tuition and fees information to find the cost of classes.
- The current booklist can help you estimate the total cost of books for your program. By looking at your program checklist, you can see the courses that you can take in your program and then you can find the books necessary for those courses on the booklist.
- The Net Price Calculator shows potential miscellaneous expenditures based on your living situation and income level that could add to the cost of attendance. If you add the potential full-time tuition and fees costs, book costs, and other miscellaneous costs for the program, you have an estimate of your school expenditures. This estimate means you can start saving with a large enough goal to meet your possible expenses.
- Financial aid is also an option to help you pay for college. To determine your eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid (scholarships), you will need to visit studentaid.gov and complete the FAFSA.
- If you would like to pay as you go for classes, but didn’t have the chance to budget in advance, you also have the option to set up a Payment Plan.

Student Loan Process
Holmes offers two separate loan options for students.
The Title IV Federal Direct Student Loan option, which requires that a student complete a FAFSA and be eligible. Students must complete verification and not be failing satisfactory academic progress. All appeals must be complete before a student is eligible for a student loan. To verify your student loan amount requested, please login to your My Holmes portal. Navigate to the Student Loan Information Request box and select the student loan you are requesting. This form can be emailed to Student Loan Coordinator listed at the bottom of the form to verify your requested loan amounts.
To apply for a Private Student Loan through Holmes Community College you can access the options at https://www.elmselect.com/link/query?schoolId=1062.
The My Holmes portal will show your progress and will populate your loan as soon as all requirements are met. If you have questions about your Title IV loan, please feel free to call (662) 472-9027.
