SHOF – Gerald Gibson, Football

Gerald “Hugh” Gibson, native of Eupora, double lettered at Holmes in the 60s. He will be inducted into the Holmes Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments April 11 in Goodman at Frank Branch Coliseum.

Gibson played center for the Bulldogs for the 1964 and 1965 seasons under Coach Robert McGraw. He was selected as a Mississippi Junior College All Sate. The 1965 football team began the season 5-0 but due to the injury of the quarterback the team finished 5-5.

In track and field, which was also coached by McGraw, Gibson was on the 440, 880 and mile relay team with Terry Cain, Billy Wayne Crenshaw and Donnie McMin.

 After Holmes, Gibson earned a J.D. from the University of Mississippi. He continues to practice law today in a locally owned and family operated full service law practice in Eupora.

In 2023, the Mississippi Bar recognized Gibson as a 50-year member. He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1973, and began his practice in Eupora in 1974. He received recognition from the Mississippi Bar as having served his city, county and state in the practice of law for the past 50 years.

Several of Gibson’s civic involvements over the years include serving as a member of the Mississippi Employment Commission as Chairman for (1980-1992) and serving on the City of Europa, Board of  Alderman (2011-2019). Gibson was also on the Holmes Board of Trustees for many years. He continues to serve on the Holmes Development Foundation Board of Governors.

Gibson resides in Eupora with his wife Mary Jane Miller Gibson. Together they have three children Judith (58), Leslie (54) and Jonathan (49).
