Associate Degree Nursing

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program offers a curriculum for those seeking an ADN degree and to qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) as well as licensing from the Mississippi State Board of Nursing.

If you are an LPN/Paramedic looking for an accelerated path to ADN, we have two choices for you!

Option I offers a twelve-month program for LPN/Paramedic who take transition courses in the summer, enter the generic program at the sophomore level in August, and complete the program the following May.

Option II offers a slower-paced avenue to LPN/Paramedic who take nursing theory courses in the fall and spring of the first year and enter the generic program at the sophomore level in August of the second year and complete the program the following May.

Program Curricula:

Mission

The mission of Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program (HCCADNP) reflects those of the college. The nursing program is designed to advance the overall purpose of the college by providing educational opportunities to qualified students for a career in nursing. The purpose/mission of the HCCADNP is two-fold:
1. To prepare registered nurse generalists who have attained competency for productive employment. Competency is identified as a performance standard, which includes knowledge, abilities, and understanding that goes beyond specific tasks and is guided by a commitment to ethical and scientific principles of nursing practice.
2. To provide equal access to higher education for traditional and nontraditional students while promoting excellence in all areas of nursing.

Enrollment in NUR courses is limited to students who have been admitted into the ADN program. Nursing courses must be taken in sequence. The prescribed curriculum plan is to be followed unless exceptions are approved by the ADN Chair and the Director of Health Science Programs. Without this approval, the student may not be allowed to progress. Once students are enrolled in a class in the program, they are required to take all remaining coursework with Holmes Community College unless written permission is granted by the Chair of the Associate Degree Nursing Program.

Program Outcomes

The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Holmes Community College has adopted the goal of informing our communities of interest each year regarding our NCLEX-RN pass rate percentage score for the previous year. This score is reflective of first writes for our Grenada and Ridgeland campuses. For the calendar year 2021, which includes one evening graduating class in December 2021 (Grenada Center only), and two day graduating classes in May 2021, our composite pass rate score is 89 percent, greatly exceeding the national average of 82.48 percent. The placement rate for the 2021 graduates is 96 percent. The 2020 program completion rate is 75.66 percent.

We are continuing our endeavors to show improvements not only in test scores, but in the quality of nurses we place in the community. We continue to strive for excellence, commitment, teamwork, and integrity in all aspects of our program and in alignment with the goals and mission of Holmes Community College.
